Hacks[edit | edit source]
Due to its being the first device in the series of iPhones, there are a lot of hacks and third-party modifications available.
Bootrom Exploits[edit | edit source]
Pwnage 2.0 for low-level code execution. This exploit guarantees that the phone is hacked for life, allowing any third-party modifications to be performed.
BootNeuter to remove restrictions within the baseband bootloader inside of the S-Gold 2 chip. This allows for a permanent carrier unlock on the device no matter what.
Jailbreaks[edit | edit source]
Thanks to Pwnage 2.0, the iPhone 2G can always be jailbroken, regardless of firmware level. Tools capable of jailbreaking the iPhone 2G are redsn0w, pwnagetool, blackra1n, and Star.
iDroid & Bootlace[edit | edit source]
iDroid is a project that aimed to port Linux and other *nix-based operating systems to the iPhone through means of a second-stage bootloader. This is only possible due to the Pwnage 2.0 exploit, which allows low-level unsigned code execution. Bootlace is a package available in Cydia that allows one to install iDroid without the need for a computer.
